Fruits acorn 1-2 cm long; rounded; blackish brown; enclosed 1/3 by cup; cup shallow, pointed at base, with pubescent scales; acorns occur when tree is 25 years old; maturing in 2 years;

bark resembling, on aged plants, cherry's bark (with scales peeling on a smooth trunk); twigs yellowish brown, pubescent; buds light brown, pentagonal in cross section, 4-9 mm long;
