Quercus synthetica Trel. 1924

Twigs rather slender (2-3 mm.), fluted, glabrous, dull reddish brown with rather promi nent light
brown lenticels. Buds rounded, glabrate. Leaves deciduous ?, elliptical-oblanceolate, bluntly
short-acuminate, acute at base, entire, somewhat crisped, large (6-7 x 16 cm.), rather glossy,
glabrous except for some axillary tufts on the paler lower surface; veins about 12-14 pairs, looped;
petiole glabrous, 2 x 10 mm. Catkins?. Fruit annual, on a peduncle some 2 x 20 mm.; cup round
or rather turbinate, moderate (15 mm. in diameter), with somewhat thickened appressed scales
blackish when abraded; acorn ellipsoid, smooth and glossy, 30 mm. long, covered at the base only.
