Leaves 10-25 x 5-10 cm; papery; adaxially glossy green; abaxially greyish green; both sides hairless; apex somewhat caudate; base broadly cuneate; margin entire, or remotely crenate-serrate near apex; midvein adaxially impressed; 9-12 parallel vein pairs, raised beneath; tertiary veins slender, evident abaxially; petiole 2-4 cm long, glabrous, black when dry;
Flowers April; female inflorescence 2-6 cm long, 3 to 5-flowered;
Fruits acorn oblate, 2-2.5 cm high, 2.5-3 cm wide; apex depressed; 1 to 5 on a ca.10 cm long infrutescence; cupule bowl-shaped, 2-4 cm in diameter, 1.5 cm high, enclosing 2/3 of the nut, outside thinly greyish pubescent, 1 mm thick, with 6-7 rings that are wavy and denticulate at margin; basal scar flat, 2-2.5 cm in diameter; stylopodium persistent; maturing in 6 months;
