Leaves 4-8 x 3.6 cm; oval-lanceolate; apex acuminate to shortly caudate; base broadly cuneate; margin entire or sometimes with few small teeth towards apex; young leaves tawny stellate tomentose; dark green above, glabrescent; yellow stellate tomentose beneath; 7-12 vein pairs, impressed upside, prominent below; petiole 1-1.5 cm long, tomentose at first, glabrescent;
Flowers April; pistillate inflorescences 5 cm long, bearing 3-10 flowers; female flowers with 3 bilobed styles; 
Fruits acorn 1-1.5 cm in diameter, globose; apex mucronate, slightly depressed; enclosed 1/4 to 1/3 by cup; cup 0.8 cm long, 1.6 cm in diameter, golden tomentose inside and outside, 1.8 mm thick, with 5-7 concentric rings marginally denticulate or entire; scar flat, 5-7 mm wide; maturing in 2 years;
