Growth habit 12 m tall;
Leaves 8-15 cm x 2-4; lanceolate, seldom linear-oblong or oval-lanceolate; long acuminate at apex; base rounded or obtuse, rarely cuneate; leathery; young leaves both sides silvery-tomentose; hairless, green above; pale glaucous beneath with rather persistent hairs; margin entire, seldom toothed; 10-12 pairs of secondary veins, ascendent, curved, slightly raised beneath; petiole hairless 1.5-2 cm long;
Flowers  
Fruits acorn ovoid-globose 2.8 cm in diameter and 3 cm high; cup flattened covering only base of nut, 2-3 cm in diameter, 8-10 mm high; 6-7 (-9) crenate rings; maturing first year;

buds lanceolate 15 mm long; leaves 7-12 x 2.3-4 cm; lanceolate, pointed at apex, attenuate at base, hairless, margin entire, seldom dentate; 8-10 vein pairs; acorn ovoid, mucronate, 2-4 cm in diameter, enclosed 1/3 by woody cup; cup halfround with 7-9 concentric rings; differs from Q.miyagii in having leaves narrower, less acuminate and less glaucous beneath;
