Leaves

11-20 x 4.5-7.5 cm ; leathery; oval-lanceolare, oblong-lanceolate or oblong; apex pointed or subobtuse; base cuneate; margin shortly dentate in the apical half; shiny and glabrous above; dull beneath, initially tomentose, becoming hairless; 12-16 vein pairs prominent beneath; petiole 1-2 cm long, rusty pubescent;

Flowers male catkins densely paniculate; male flowers with stamens more or less hidden in the tomentum;
Fruits acorn 1.5-1.8 cm long, 1.2-1.5 cm in diameter, ovoid, tomentose at first then glabrous, apex depressed, base truncate with convex basal scar; 1/2 enclosed by cup; cup hemispherical, 2 cm in diameter, 1.3 cm high, with ca. 10 concentrical, denticulate, slightly tomentose rings.
